The Hanifi Team 1.Background The Rohingya people have a rich history, culture, and language that form an essential part of their identity. However, for many decades, the Rohingya language has faced serious challenges due to displacement, lack of formal recognition, and limited access to education in the mother tongue. As a result, many Rohingya children grew up without the opportunity to learn to read and write in their own language To address this challenge, dedicated educators, language activists, and community members began working to promote the Rohingya language using the Hanifi script, a writing system developed specifically for the Rohingya language. Their goal was to preserve the language, strengthen cultural identity, and ensure that future generations of Rohingya children would not lose their linguistic heritage From this vision and commitment, the Hanifi Team emerged as a group of passionate individuals determined to support and expand mother-tongue education for Rohingya communities 2. Journey The journey of the Hanifi Team began with a shared concern for the future of the Rohingya language. Many members realized that without organized efforts, the language could gradually weaken among younger generations, especially in refugee and displaced communities Starting with small initiatives such as informal classes, community discussions, and the preparation of simple learning materials, the team gradually expanded its work. Volunteers and teachers began teaching children how to read and write in the Hanifi script, often using limited resources but strong dedication Over time, the team collaborated with educators, community leaders, and organizations that support education. They helped distribute Rohingya textbooks, trained teachers, and encouraged parents to support mother-tongue learning for their children Despite challenges such as limited resources, lack of infrastructure, and difficult living conditions, the Hanifi Team continued its efforts with determination. Their journey reflects resilience, unity, and a deep commitment to protecting the Rohingya language 3. Vision The vision of the Hanifi Team is to see a future where the Rohingya language is preserved, respected, and widely used in education and daily life They aspire to build a strong educational foundation in which Rohingya children can learn in their mother tongue while also gaining access to broader knowledge and opportunities. The team believes that language is not only a tool for communication but also a powerful symbol of identity, dignity, and cultural continuity Their long-term vision includes expanding Rohingya language education, strengthening literacy in the Hanifi script, and inspiring future generations to take pride in their linguistic heritage 4. Mission The mission of the Hanifi Team is to actively promote and support Rohingya mother-tongue education through teaching, community engagement, and educational development Their mission includes Teaching Rohingya children how to read and write using the Hanifi script Supporting schools and students with Rohingya learning materials Training and encouraging teachers to promote mother-tongue education Raising awareness about the importance of preserving the Rohingya language Strengthening the cultural and linguistic identity of the Rohingya community Through these efforts, the team aims to empower children with knowledge while protecting the language that connects them to their history and culture 5. About the Hanifi Team The Hanifi Team is a group of committed educators, volunteers, and language advocates dedicated to the promotion and development of the Rohingya Hanifi script and language education The team works closely with schools, students, and community members to support learning initiatives that focus on mother-tongue literacy. Their activities include teaching classes, developing educational resources, distributing textbooks, and encouraging young learners to embrace their language and culture Driven by passion and community spirit, the Hanifi Team believes that preserving language means preserving identity. Through their ongoing work, they are helping ensure that the Rohingya language continues to live, grow, and inspire future generations
