Bangladesh and UNHCR engage in talks on Rohingya repatriation.


During discussions, the Bangladesh Foreign Minister proposed potential collaboration between UNHCR, India, and China to facilitate the return of Rohingya refugees. Hasan Mahumud expressed this during a meeting with Sumbul Rizvi, the UNHCR representative for Bangladesh, on May 16th, 2024.


The enduring conflict in Myanmar was highlighted by Minister Hasan Mahumud, who emphasized the necessity of international pressure for Rohingya repatriation.


The meeting addressed various topics, including the influx of Myanmar military council troops into Bangladesh and updates on the conflict situation. Vocational training and educational initiatives in Bangladeshi refugee camps were also on the agenda, with a proposal presented by Foreign Minister Hasan Mahumud.


Furthermore, discussions encompassed the utilization and maintenance of facilities on Bangladesh's Bhasan Char Island to better accommodate Rohingya refugees.
